Future Materials
Future Materials is a discovery engine showcasing design-led, low carbon, bio and circular products - the building materials of the future.
A place to empower designers and champion suppliers, Future Materials has been developed by industry leaders who are committed to knowledge sharing and accelerating change.
Design professionals hold great power in deciding the materiality of the built environment. Future Materials is a responsible choice enabler with a design lens. Take control of embodied carbon, waste cycles and resource recovery on your projects, the time is now!
Why are green building materials important?
The construction industry is responsible for 37% of global emissions and around 11% of this is due to the manufacture and construction of building materials. These figures are set to rise as the need to build keeps pace with housing the projected global population of 9.7 billion people by 2050. Achieving net zero at this critical juncture will not be possible without a change of mindset NOW towards bio-based and circular materials.
How do we qualify materials?
We showcase materials and products that are high performers across one or more of the following criteria:
- Low embodied carbon in fabrication
- Made from recycled waste materials with high recycled content %
- Made from bio or renewable natural materials
- Locally made in Australia from sustainable sources
- Recyclable or biodegradable at end of life
- Red List Free, low toxicity content
